Bethlehem University : Brief Background Information.   As the only Catholic Christian University in the Holy Land and the first university established in the West Bank , Bethlehem University plays a significant role in serving the educational and professional development needs of the community and in fostering the inter-religious dialogue necessary to enhance the harmony of life in the Holy Land . Bethlehem University is a Vatican sponsored university which is a member of the Association of Arab Universities and the International Federation of Catholic Universities. The University currently enrolls 2,787 undergraduates and has 10,647 graduates. Female students comprise the majority of the student population (70%); Christians are a significant proportion of the staff and faculty (80%); and the majority of students (65%) are Muslims.
