Bethlehem University is the first university established in the West Bank and is the only Catholic University in Palestine and Israel – and open to students of all faith traditions. Despite being closed by Israeli military orders 12 times since its founding in 1973, thus far, there are more than 11,100 graduates of the university who are engaged in various leadership and service roles throughout Palestine and Israel as well as internationally.
In the Fall of 2005, Bethlehem University began its first Masters degree program, a Masters in International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) and in the Fall of 2008, the second Masters degree began, a Masters in Molecular Biotechnology.
In addition to the graduates from the bachelors and masters degree programs, the university's professional diplomas and continuing education programs have enabled thousands of local merchants and farmers to enhance their small business management skills. In the Fall of 2007, Bethlehem University began the first on-line professional diploma programs authorized by the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Online Professional Diplomas for Development of Small and Medium Enterprises and the Professional Diploma in Public Administration.
Due to on-going travel restrictions, in October 2008, Bethlehem University celebrated the graduation of ten Occupational Therapy students from Gaza via video conferencing.
