Bethlehem University Hosting Solidarity Groups

On Tuesday, 23 December, Bethlehem University hosted a group of 86 persons from France , led by Mr. Jean-Calude Petit, President and Director General of Malesherbes Publications, a leading publishing house in France . The group included Monsignor Brunin , Auxiliary Bishops of Lille , leaders of the weekly magazine La Vie, members of Pax Christi , France , and a number of notable Christian leaders.

Brother Vincent Malham, President-Vice Chancellor, welcomed the group and spoke of the challenges and accomplishment of Bethlehem University . He acknowledged all those contributing to its success and development, namely the various donors, faculty, staff, students, and the De La Salle Christian Brothers.

Father Peter DuBrul , Dr. Bernard Sabella, and Dr. Jacqueline Sfeir spoke about their work and the challenges they are facing in their daily life and as university faculty. Two Bethlehem University students studying French, Mirna Fleifel and Yara Matar, and French teacher Lutfi Nuia, spoke about their experience and daily life in the Holy Land .

The visitors saw a short PowerPoint presentation in French about Bethlehem University , and a short segment of a documentary entitled “Les Heritiers De Marie” about the challenges and accomplishments of Palestinian women.


That same day, Bethlehem University hosted another solidarity group of 20 persons from Napoli , Italy , consisting of members of parliament and NGOs. The group met with Brother Jack Curran, Vice President for Development; Dr. Jean Kattan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Mr. George Sahhar, Public Relations / Development Officer. The group was interested in knowing about Bethlehem University and how it is helping local society.


On Monday, December 29, 2003 , Bethlehem University hosted 20 judges, lawyers, and academicians from Italy led by Father Matteo Crimella . They were welcomed by Brother Vincent Malham, President-Vice Chancellor, and they met with Brother Jack Curran, Vice President for Development; Dr Zoseph Zaknoun, Chairman of the Humanities Department; Father Jamal Khader, Chairman of the Department of Religious Studies; and Dr. Irene Hazou, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. Discussion focused on the mission of Bethlehem University and the possibilities that may exist for cooperation.
