New Posts
in Bethlehem University

With the beginning of the 2003 – 2004 academic
year, new members are joining the Bethlehem University community,
as part of a dynamic process of change, development, and relentless
progress. The following persons will be assuming new posts:
Brother
Fergus McArdle, FSC, is the new Vice President
for Academic Affairs. Brother is from Ireland, and he has
his Ph.D. in Educational Management from the Catholic University
in Washington, D.C.
Apart from teaching and working in Ireland
for 25 years, Brother Fergus taught in St. John's Brothers'
High School in Washington, D.C., and has just completed his
post as the Director of Education for all the Brothers' schools
in Ireland. |
. Brother
Jack Curran, FSC, is the new Vice President
for Development. He has his undergraduate degrees in Physics
and Social Work from Manhattan College, New York, and an M.S.W.
and Ph.D. in Social Work from the State University of New
York at Albany.
After teaching in schools in
New York City and working as a social worker with juvenile
delinquents and their families, Brother Jack also worked as
a student Counselor at Manhattan College. Brother comes to
Bethlehem University after having just served as Vice President
for Student Affairs at St. Mary's College, California.
Brother Jack is the oldest of seven brothers
and sisters, and he has 15 nephews and nieces. He became a
Christian Brother in 1979. |
Father
Jamal Khader is the new Chairman of the Religious
Studies Department. In 1988 he graduated from the Beit Jala
Seminary, Beit Jala, and was ordained a Catholic priest. Father
Jamal received his Ph.D. from Pontifical Gregorian University,
Rome, Italy, in 1999, and has been teaching since then in
the Beit Jala Seminary, and in the St. Paul Seminary in Cremizan,
Bethlehem. Father Jamal has also served as Parish Priest for
five years in Ajloun, Jordan.

Dr.
Muna Matar has just returned from Belgium where
she received her Ph.D. in Information Technology. She is a
Bethlehem University alumna, Department of Mathematics, in
1981. Muna has her M.A. from Oregon State University, Oregon,
USA since 1985
While in Belgium, she was Project Leader
for the E-learning Project at the Institute of Continuing
Education at the University of Gant, where she participated
in setting up software that enables teachers to put courses
on line.
Muna is returning to Bethlehem University
as Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Science, Department
of Mathematics. She will participate in setting up the new
Computer and Information Technology Program.

Brother
Henry Chaya, FSC, is Coordinator for the new
Computer and Information Technology Program which is being
developed. He received his Ph.D. in Material Sciences from
Princeton University in 1981, and his M.A. also from Princeton
in 1975, and his undergraduate degree from Manhattan College
in Sciences in 1973. He became a Christian Brother in 1978.
Brother was a member of the Electrical and
Computer Engineering Department in Manhattan College, New
York, since 1981. He served as Chairman of the Department
from 1996 - 2000. Brother Henry is an Associate Professor,
and he has a number of publications.
Brother Henry likes to sing, and was a member of the Manhattan
College Singers for 30 years.
