Annual
Faculty Meeting
On Friday, August 29, the
2003-2004 academic year was inaugurated. Members of the
Bethlehem University community came together for the Annual
Faculty Meeting.
New
simultaneous translation equipment was used for the first
time, thus providing to Arabic and English speakers the
opportunity to communicate together more effectively. Bethlehem
University is the only institution in the Bethlehem area
that has such equipment.
Brother Vincent Malham, President-Vice Chancellor,
opened the meeting with a prayer. Brother Fergus McArdle,
the new Vice President for Academic Affairs, spoke about
the strength of the B.U. community and this year's high
student enrollment.
Dr. Irene Hazou, Assistant Vice President
for Academic Affairs, updated the University community on
the status of strategic planning and called on people to
give their feedback to the external evaluators, many of
whom from the University College, Dublin, who will start
coming to B.U. in early October.
Brother Vincent gave his reflections on this
year's 30th Anniversary Celebration. He said that the strength
of Bethlehem University rests in its human resources. He
highlighted the importance of the on-going support and commitment
of B.U.'s founders: The Vatican through the Congregation
of Eastern Churches and the De La Salle Christian Brothers.
When Brother Vincent ended his inspirational remarks with
the quotation: "Go over, go under, go around or go
through, but never give up," the B.U. community responded
with a hearty round of applause.
