Visits Bethlehem University

On
Wednesday, 3 March 2004, Archbishop William Levada
of San Francisco, Prior, and Mr. John McGuckin, Lieutenant,
led a pilgrimage of 28 Knights and Ladies of the Northwestern
Lieutenancy, USA. The visit to Bethlehem
University began with a welcoming lunch provided by
the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, followed
by a visit to the Chapel hosted by Brother Jean Manuel.
Brother Jean spoke about the history and significance
of the Chapel to the University, as represented in
the frescos depicting children saints from around the
world and biblical scenes of the history of salvation.
The afternoon visit continued
with tours of the University led by Mr. Sami El-Yousef,
Vice President for Finances and Planning; Ms. Vera
Baboun, Assistant Dean of Students; and Dr. Jacqueline
Sfeir, Director of the Educational Development Center.
Student hosts assisted with the tours.
The afternoon concluded
in conversation with faculty, staff, and students,
about life in Bethlehem, the socio-political situation,
and the importance of the University as a source of
hope for young Palestinians
Among the visitors were
Kenneth and Theresa Willett, great friends and benefactors
of the University; Albert and Lilly Hazboun of the
Bethlehem Association, and Elias Botto, scholarship
donors; and Father Labib Kobti of the Al-Bushra information
network
