On Thursday, 1 April, Bethlehem University held
its annual Career Day. The lack of employment opportunities
in the Bethlehem area served as impetus for pressing
ahead with the event. Despite skepticism that only
a small number of employers might attend, fortunately
potential employers attended from 40 institutions
in Bethlehem and Jerusalem, representing social institutions,
schools, hospitals, NGOs, and some private businesses.
This good turn-out is the result of the local community's
confidence in the caliber of Bethlehem University's
academic programs and the nature of its graduates.
Graduating seniors from the University were busy
over the last few weeks leading to Career Day, as
they were attending seminars on interviewing and
resume writing. Approximately 200 students attended
Career Day and spoke to prospective employers.
The Counseling Office and the Career Day Preparatory
Committee pressed ahead with Career Day, because
of the lack of employment in the area. The event
turned out to be a great success, thus meeting a
key objective of Bethlehem University, namely to
foster the outreach activities with the local community.
