Community Midwifery Workshop
A workshop was held in Bethlehem University on Community Midwifery which was attended by 20 midwives from hospitals and clinics in Jerusalem, Hebron, and Bethlehem.
The trainees spent five days in Bethlehem University learning how to care for women during high risk delivery, emergency management, counseling during home visits, and post-delivery care.
Training was offered at B.U. in response to needs of the local community, because travel in the West Bank may be restricted because of the harsh political situation and women may not have access to hospitals.
The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Foundation for Health and Social Development (Juzoor), headed by Ms. Deena Khoury who served as training coordinator. Training was led by four community midwife experts from the U.K.
Maha Fatho, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing in Bethlehem University, described the workshop as “a wonderful opportunity for training, especially since the midwifes exchanged ideas with trainers from Britain and acquired new information.”
