Eights students of the B.U. Journalism Minor attended the “Media for the Future Conference,” held in Ramallah from 9-10 October 2004.
The students were accompanied by Dr. Qustandi Shomali, Instructor in the Department of Arabic. Dr. Shomali gave a paper on the development of media education in Bethlehem University.
Media experts from Palestine and the world gave papers on the role of Palestinian media and how to develop it further, taking into consideration the role of young journalists in conveying the Palestinian narrative to the world. This is the first time Palestinian and international experts meet to discuss the future of Palestinian media. Bethlehem University students participated actively in the discussion during the various sessions.
The Conference was organized by the Palestinian Youth Association for Leadership and Rights Activation, PYALARA, and Palestinian universities. The Director General of PYALARA, Hania Al-Bitar, is a 1992 graduate of Bethlehem University’s Department of English.
