Fine Arts and Music Events in Bethlehem University

On Thursday, 17 February, Bethlehem University hosted the German artist Agricola Wielfred. Agricola had established a website where artists interact together and they post their work in exhibitions on-line. So far the exhibitions covered humanitarian topics, women issues, the environment, and globalization.

Bethlehem University faculty and students attended the presentation, in addition to Samar Ghattas, Fine Art Instructor, and Brother Fergus McArdle, Vice President for Academic Affairs. Discussion focused on how Agricola’s initiative to post art on-line makes an exhibitions more interactive than the usual approach of visiting a museum or exhibition house.

In another event on Friday, 18 February, a musical evening took place in honor of Christine Ryder. Christine came to the Holy Land with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Program of the World Council of Churches. During her stay, she took part with the Bethlehem University Choir and helped with the music.

Rana Mousa (English, 1), and Sister Patricia Crockford, Department of Humanities, performed piano adaptations of Mozart’s Symphony Number 40. The Student Choir of Bethlehem University performed songs in English and Arabic. Christine Ryder played Vivaldi on the violin, with George Deik on the Oboe and Sr. Patricia on the piano.

In attendance were some 100 members of the Bethlehem University students, brothers, faculty and staff, and the Bethlehem community.
