The three-fold function of Bethlehem University; teaching, research, and community outreach, were well displayed in the Science Fair that took place on Friday and Saturday, 4 and 5 March.

Science Faculty members, researchers, and students, worked very hard to prepare experiments, products, and displays in an attractive way for local high school students of the 10th , 11th and 12th grades. Each station of the fair was manned throughout the two days with Bethlehem University scientists engaging high school teachers and their pupils in the work of Bethlehem University's Science Faculty. The 500 high school students who participated on Friday and the 1,000 pupils that attended on Saturday with their teachers very much appreciated what they saw and heard. The value of Bethlehem University's Science Faculty to the local community and, indeed to the international community, was well illustrated by the three major research units of the Science Faculty: UNESCO’s Biotechnology Research Center, Genetic Deafness Lab, and the Water and Soil Environmental Research Unit.
Brother Vincent Malham, President-Vice Chancellor, and Mr. Abdullah Shakarneh, Director of Education in Bethlehem, opened the Science Fair. Brother Fergus McArdle, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Brother Daniel Casey, Vice Chancellor-designate, attended. Mr. Shakarneh wrote in the guest book: “ I am very proud of and grateful to this prestigious University, especially for the splendid efforts evident in your Science Fair, the Science Faculty professors, staff, researchers, and students. God willing, our young students will have a bright future. They are the hope for tomorrow's Palestine.”
