International Woman's Day Celebrated at Bethlehem University
On March 8, the entire world celebrates Women’s Day, emphasizing women’s rights and importance in society and honors their work and achievements.
Vera Baboun, Assistant Dean of students, welcomed the participants, and spoke about women’ struggle for equality. The President of the Student Senate, Hassan Faraj, spoke about the sacrifices of Palestinian mothers under occupation.
And there stood Bethlehem University, on Thursday, 10 March, honoring four Palestinian women activists: Dalal Salameh; Member of the Legislative Council; Jivara El-Buderi, Al-Jazeera T.V Correspondent; Amal Jadou, Bethlehem University alumna and recipient of the Japanese award of Excellence; and Rania Akel, artist.
A panel discussion took place with the honored women. They spoke about their proactive role and experience in Palestinian society, their career, and the difficulties they had to overcome. Amal Jadou, one of the honored women said: “every woman has wings, but she should learn how to fly.”
Afterwards the Women Soccer Team of Bethlehem University was honored on this occasion.
The celebration concluded with a cultural performance by Dalal Group for Palestinian cultural dancing, and an art exhibit was opened for Samar Ghattas, Fine Arts Instructor.
