On Friday, 8 April 2005, Bethlehem University held a Mass of Resurrection for the late Pope John Paul II. The Mass took place at the same time when millions were gathered in Rome and around the world for the same purpose. The faculty, staff, Administration, and friends of Bethlehem University filled the Chapel to bid farewell to the late Pope and to thank God for the rich legacy that he left behind.
In the Bethlehem University Chapel, the Celebrant was Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Delegate and Chancellor of the University. He was assisted by Monsignor Gianfranco Gallone, Secretary of the Apostolic Delegate, and Father Peter Dubrul, Father Jamal Khader, and Father Ya’coub Abu Sa’da. Monsignor Sambi spoke about the late Pope’s visit to Bethlehem, his love for the needy Palestinian children, his visit to Deheishe Refugee Camp, and his words of encouragement and support describing the work of Bethlehem University in the Holy Land.
