External Review of the Social Work Program

From 12 – 20 April, Bethlehem University hosted Dr. George Metrey to do the external evaluation for the Social Work Program, as part of the 5-Year Strategic Planning Process. Dr. Metrey is former Dean of the School of Social Work, Rhode Island College, USA. Also, he has significant experience in accreditation issues, and he is serving on the Education Policy Commission of the Council on Social Work Education.

During his visit to Bethlehem University, Dr. Metrey met students and explored how their studies in the Social Work Program is helping them develop professionally. Also, he visited alumni working in local area organizations; in the Arab Rehabilitation Center, Caritas Baby Hospital, Beit Sahour YMCA, and Defense of Children International. Dr. Metrey met faculty members in the Social Sciences Department and discussed with them how their work is covering the needs of the job market, the teaching-learning methods they are using, and the content of the curriculum.

Since the Fall 2004 semester, Bethlehem University has been doing a comprehensive review of all academic programs. Activities include visits by external reviewers from universities abroad.
