Bethlehem University Celebrates De La Salle Day

On 15 May the Bethlehem University faculty, staff, and De La Salle Christian Brothers celebrated Pentecost Sunday and the Feast of John Baptist De La Salle, founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and Patron of all Teachers. This year there were four De La Salle Brother jubilarians:

Brother Joseph Loewenstein, celebrating 60 years
Brother Vincent Malham, celebration 50 years
Brother Jack Curran, celebrating 25 years
Brother Peter Iorlano, celebrating 25 years

The annual celebration started with liturgy in the University chapel. Brother Peter Iorlano, Coordinator of Institutional Values, gave the Homily. After the Mass the Brothers community received congratulations from faculty and staff.

The annual Staff Recognition took place in Furno Hall. Click here for a list of the Bethlehem University staff honored on this occasion. Brother Vincent Malham was recognized for his services to Bethlehem University as he is completing his term as President-Vice Chancellor. Dr. Muna Matar, Department of Mathematics and recently elected Member of the Beit Jala City Council, gave him a plaque from the City of Beit Jala, and Professor Manuel Hassassian, Executive Vice President, gave him a plaque as an expression of appreciation on behalf of the faculty and staff.

Hotel Management Chef, Andoni Hadweh, and Mr. Nabil Al-Mufdi, Director of the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, prepared a Barbeque picnic in the garden for the Bethlehem University community. A large cake with the University emblem and the names of the four Brother jubilarians arrived in time for the dessert.

After the picnic, the participants toured the renovation work taking place in De La Salle Hall, and watched a film: My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
