Ms. Mary Jaleel Juha
A remarkable personality, dedicated professional and a person well known to all students is Ms. Mary Jaleel Issa Juha. Twenty five years ago Mary Juha joined the Bethlehem University community and since then she has been a most valuable asset to the entire University community in a variety of capacities.
Mary was born in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, and she attended Terra Sancta College. After high school, Mary continued at the YWCA in Jerusalem to earn a secretarial diploma. She worked at the Holy Land Mission until she was hired as a secretary to the Registrar at Bethlehem University in 1980.
As Mary has always been eager to improve her skills and enhance her service to the Bethlehem University community, in 1983 she applied for a participant degree at the Faculty of Business Administration and started her studies along with her secretarial work. "It’s due to the University’s ongoing encouragement, allowing me to take one course per semester during my work, along with my own determination that helped me go through the pressure, stress and hard work needed to study and work at the same time,” says Mary.
In 1986, Mary was promoted to an assistant in the Registrar’s Office and was again promoted in 1992 to be the Chief of the Registrar's Office. Mary wishes she could continue her studies towards the bachelor degree. “It would probably take me another 20 years, I don’t think that’s feasible at the moment,” she says.
The only criticism she has against the students is their regular requests to meet her to help them get the course with the desired teacher, in that she comments: "I have a small advice to all the students. It is important to adhere to the academic course registration schedule that is set by the Registrar’s Office and not to so often try to change sections to take a course with a specific teacher because all the teachers are equal in the University’s opinion.”
Mary embodies the ideal of a hard working professional woman. She is passionate in her work and honest with her colleagues. She always tries to help improve and build the University. "I hope that every student would try to always push him/herself to the limit, to be the best person they want to be, and remain committed to achieve the best results."
