International woman's day

On the occasion of The International Woman Day, the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Ms. Vera Baboun at Bethlehem University organized a celebration in which 5 renowned women were honored for their distinguished achievements to society. Brother Daniel Casey, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University, members of faculty and staff, students and representatives of various non-governmental organizations attended the celebration. At the beginning of the celebration, the audience observed a minute of silence honoring those who died defending the Palestinian Cause. This was followed by Ms. Baboun’s speech in which she stressed the importance of the mother’s role in planting gender equality among her children. She also emphasized the importance of changing mentalities to reduce discrimination and male dominance in the society. Hiba Samara, speaking for the Student Senate, emphasized the important role of women in different aspects of the society including social, cultural and political. All five women Ms. ‘Adilah Al-‘Aydi Hanieh, Ms. Vera Tamari, Ms. Doreen Munayyer, Ms. Itaf Abdallah Rasas and Ms. Janette Ghattas addressed the audience and thanked Bethlehem University for taking the initiative in acknowledging them.

Following the speeches, Brother DanielCasey presented the guests with special plaques. The folkloric dance group “ Jenin” concluded the celebration by performing different Dabkah dances.
