Bethlehem University welcomed Archbishop Mario Joseph Conti

Bethlehem University, 22 June 2006

 

On Friday 16 June 2006, Bethlehem University welcomed the Most Reverend Mario Joseph Conti K.C.H.S., Ph.L., S.T.L., D.D., F.R.S.E. Archbishop of Glasgow .

 Archbishop Conti was born at Elgin, Moray, 20 March 1934. He gained a License in Philosophy in 1955 and also in Theology in 1959 both from the Gregorian University, Rome. He was ordained Priest in the Church of San Marcello al Corso, Rome, by Archbishop Luigi Traglia on 26th October 1958. He was nominated Bishop of Aberdeen on 28 February 1977, was ordained bishop by His Eminence Gordon Cardinal Gray, Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh, at Aberdeen on 3 May 1977.

Archbishop Conti together with Reverend Stuart MacQuarrie , Chaplain to the University of Glasgow met with Brother Daniel Casey, Vice Chancellor, and they discussed the current situation in the Holy Land and future cooperation between the Archdiocese of Glasgow and Bethlehem University. Brother Daniel thanked Archbishop Conti for his fraternal and supportive visit to Bethlehem University.

Brother Daniel presented Archbishop Conti with Bethlehem University Medal and expressed gratitude to the Archbishop and the student chaplaincy of the University of Glasgow for their generous support of Bethlehem University especially in these days of continued economic uncertainty in our region.
