Bethlehem University Welcomes
the German Bishops’ Conference
Both the president of Bethlehem University, Archbishop Fouad Twal and the Vice Chancellor of the University Brother Daniel Casey welcomed the Permanent Council of the German Bishops’ Conference at Bethlehem University on the 3rd of March 2007.
“We were happy to host the Bishops on our campus. Their visit is of great significance to our community, which is walled in. We are challenged everyday to help our young men and women see the possibility of a better future. This solidarity visit demonstrates that bridges of hope are still alive” said Brother Daniel Casey.
At Bethlehem University the Bishops were received by the University’s Board of Trustees, the Brothers Community, Faculty and Staff as well as a number of students. Their three-hour visit included a presentation on the work of the University, a discussion session with students and faculty, a visit to the Chapel of the Divine Child and lunch prepared by students of the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism.
“To Christians of the Holy Land, this visit renews hope and assures us all that we are not forgotten” said Archbishop Twal. He also added “Bethlehem University, first university established in the West Bank, has always been an oasis; celebrating faith, academic excellence and diversity - all made possible through our committed friends and benefactors around the world.”
