Hope is Stronger than Disabilities

Bethlehem University takes care of each student. Among the students there are some who are called “students with special needs” or handicapped because of a physical disability.

The university believes that these students have the right to live and have a dream to live for, and through education to make this dream come true. To help them achieve their goals and cope with their conditions, the university provides them with the needed facilities for learning and mobility, as well as financial help.

In January 2002 a special committee for students with special needs was founded by some of the university staff and faculty members to work on fulfilling the needs of those students. On Friday May 4 the committee arranged a discussion session for current students with special needs and two of employed graduates with special needs.

Iyad Abu Sharkh (BU ’02), chief accountant in Al Dahryyah Municipality, and Ola Abu Al Ghaib (BU ’96), head of development and relations department in Abu Rayyah, were delightful to accept this invitation. They came, introduced themselves to the students and talked about their experience during and after the life at the university. They talked about their dreams and persistence to make them come true.

The aim of this meeting was to encourage the current students not to lose hope and to work hard despite their disability.
