Prof. Shomali Receives an Award for Excellence

At the end of the 1st Academic Colloquia held in Ramallah between July 12th and July 14th to discuss excellence in higher education, Dr. Qustandi Shomali was awarded the “Teaching Excellence Award” which is designed to highlight the importance of teaching in higher education, to inspire teachers within academia and to recognize their successes. Prof. Shomali who has been a faculty member of Bethlehem University for over 25 years, received this award for his outstanding efforts in applying technologies in learning and teaching, research, translation and humanities.
The event was attended by a large number of academic faculty from the different Palestinian universities was organized by the Palestinian Faculty Development Program (PFDP) which is administered by AmidEast, USAID and the Open Society Institute.
The Award which comprises a certificate and the amount of $2,000, was presented by Dr. Howard Sumka, Mission Director of USAID accompanied by Marth Loerke from the Open Society Institute.
In his acceptance speech Prof Shomali thanked the AmidEeat for initiating and supporting teaching excellence in the Palestinian Territories and stressed that establishing teaching awards has greatly energized interest and motivated teachers.
A similar award of excellence was granted to Dr. Ghassan Abu Hijleh from the Arab American University in Jenin.
