Graduates Win First Prize in Computer and Information Technology Conference

12 September 2007

Ihab Khoury, John Bandak, and Ramy Giacaman, three Bethlehem University (BU) Information Technology graduates, won the first prize in the Second Palestinian International Conference on Computer and Information Technology held in Hebron during 1-3 September, 2007.

Their project, entitled “Breast Cancer Diagnosis System,” provides a system through which doctors can determine the exact location of cancer. This project was a response to the increased number of breast cancer patients, particularly in the Bethlehem area.

BU graduates submitted seven Bachelor projects to the conference but only two made it to the final stage of the competition. The winners received a certificate of attendance, plaque, and prize money.

As a result of this award, Ihab Khoury was granted a scholarship to participate in a three-month research program in the same field at the Public University of Nevarre (Universidad Pública de Navarra) in Pamplona, Spain.

The 2nd Palestinian International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (PICCIT 07) is a forum for scientists, engineers and practitioners to present their latest research results and applications in all areas of computer science, computer engineering and information technology.
