Bethlehem University is Saddened by the Death of

Sister Violeta Ortega , SPC

Sister Violeta Ortega, a Sister of Saint Paul of Chartres (SPC), died early Tuesday morning in the Perpetual Succor Hospital in Cebu , Philippines at age 57. Sr. Violeta, a Finance Officer for Bethlehem University from July 1999 to April 2004, was diagnosed with colon cancer in Bethlehem in 2000. Soon after Sr. Violeta traveled to her hometown, Bagadian, located in the southern part of the Philippines , to undergo surgery, only to return less than one year later to continue her post at Bethlehem University .

Sr. Violeta spent 30 years in the religious life, mainly serving as a finance officer in schools throughout the Philippines . She was known to be a loving, kind-hearted and gentle person, deeply committed to her faith and to her calling in life. We will remember her with great joy as her soul reunites with our God, the Father.

Bethlehem University will hold a Memorial Mass in the Chapel of the Divine Child at 12:45 on Friday, April 4.

May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen!
