Bethlehem University Honors Faculty and Staff on de La Salle Day

Bethlehem University , on May 15 th , took the occasion of the Feast of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools , to celebrate the Eucharist in the Chapel of the Divine Child, and to recognize the invaluable service of its staff and faculty.

His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Franco, Apostolic Delegate to Jerusalem and Palestine and Chancellor of Bethlehem University, and His Excellency Archbishop Fouad Boutros Twal, Coadjutor Archbishop of Jerusalem and President of Bethlehem University, celebrated the Mass with concelebrants Fr. Jamal Khader, Chairperson of the Religious Studies Department, and Fr. Peter Du Brul, SJ, professor in the Religious Studies Department along with faculty, staff and friends of Bethlehem University. Like every year at this time, the Brothers also renewed their vows.

Following the Mass was an awards ceremony in Cardinal Furno Hall to honor faculty and staff for their years of service to Bethlehem University . Br. Robert Smith, FSC, interim vice-chancellor and Vice President for Academic Affairs, reflected on the importance of the occasion, which was celebrated on the same day by all de La Salle Brothers of the Christian Schools throughout the world.

“Today we joyfully recognize and honor—and express gratitude to—37 members of our community who are making various anniversaries of employment at the University…Bethlehem University would not, and could not, survive—much less thrive—were it not for the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of each of the members of its community. For this, we can all be justifiably proud and grateful,” Br. Robert stated in his address to the faculty, staff and guests of Bethlehem University.

Among the 37 individuals receiving recognition were: Ms. Elsa Hazboun, Director of Personnel Management, for 30 years of service and Ms. Firial Bannoura, Department of Chemistry, and Mr. Ibrahim Nuaimi, Computer Lab Supervisor, for 25 years of service. Brother Neil Kieffe, FSC, was a special honoree as he celebrated his golden Jubilee of consecrated life as a Brother of the Christian Schools . For a complete list of honorees and to read Br.
