Death of Brother Daniel Casey, FSC
Dear Members and Friends of the Bethlehem University Community:
I write to let you know that Brother Daniel Casey, FSC, Vice Chancellor, died peacefully yesterday (Wednesday, 30 July) in the United States where he had gone in January to receive treatment for a recurrence of cancer.
Brother Daniel served Bethlehem University and its students with competence, dedication, professionalism, and faithfulness. He loved the University, its mission, its students, and all those staff and faculty members who are committed to the education of the young men and women of Palestine entrusted to their care.
Earlier this month I was able to visit Brother Daniel in the USA. We had a wonderful, thoughtful, joyful conversation for about one and a half hours. He talked comfortably and as a man of deep faith about his death; he was ready to meet God.
In the coming days I will travel to the USA to represent the University at his funeral.
At a later time, we will have a Mass of Thanksgiving in the University Chapel to thank God for the gift of Brother Daniel in our lives and in service of the mission and ministry of this University.
I invite you to pray for the repose of the soul of Brother Daniel, and for the consolation of his family and of his De La Salle Christian Brothers.
Sincerely,
Brother Robert Smith, FSC, PhD
Interim Vice Chancellor
Vice President for Academic Affairs
