Mahmoud Darwish Ceremony

On Thursday, September 4, Bethlehem University held a memorial ceremony in tribute to the late Mahmoud Darwish, the distinguished Palestinian Poet. The event was organized by the Dean of Students and attended by the students of the university, intellectual leaders from the community, academicians, and friends of Mahmoud Darwish in the Bethlehem area.
After a welcoming note by Ms. May Jaber, from the Office of the Dean of Students, the ceremony began with a moving and powerful multimedia presentation on the life and work of Mahmoud Darwish, prepared by Prof. Qustandi Shomali.
The President of the Student Senate spoke of the political role of the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish and Dr. Norma Masriyeh, Head of the Sociology and Social Work Departments, spoke of Mahmoud Darwish as a friend and a thinker.
To conclude the ceremony's tribute, three students from Bethlehem University played instruments and sang one of the poems of Mahmoud Darwish “Rita”.
