Friends of Bethlehem University in Ireland Highlight Partnership Efforts at BU

The Friends of Bethlehem University in Ireland (FBUI) Summer 2009 newsletter highlights the range of ongoing and planned partnerships between Bethlehem University and its Irish supporters. Professor John Kelly, FBUI Chairman, is a long-time friend of the University whose leadership and commitment are deeply appreciated.

Newsletter items of note include comments from Mary Mc Aleese, President of Ireland. FBUI, she said, “will offer the University vital support through the network of academic links it makes available, enhancing the educational reach of this institution as it carries out its vital work under the most testing conditions”.

Additionally, the newsletter details the University faculty and staff members involved in developing innovative links with their Irish counterparts. Ideas include intensive English language programs, Public Relations practica and leadership training cooperation with Irish institutions.

Keen to raise awareness about the Palestinian situation, Professor Kelly has written several opinion pieces about the University’s work for the Irish Times. His pieces often draw on his own experiences in Palestine and highlight the impact of the Israeli separation wall, the effect of travel restrictions on Gaza students and the persistence of Bethlehem University’s students.
