A Chamber Music Concert, sponsored by the European
Union and Bethlehem University, took place in Sansour Hall on September
25th. German, American and Palestinian musicians of the 'East-West-Chamber
Ensemble' played classical music written for two violins, cello,
clarinet and piano. On October 9th, a large crowd attended a jazz
concert sponsored by the Swedish Institute in the Music Room of
the Social and Cultural Center. The group called “The Beautiful
Mind” entertained the audience.
Theatre
In cooperation with the Office of the Dean of Students
and the Student Senate, the Palestinian theater group Inad presented
“Until When...” on October 15th. The play about the
hardships and deprivation of human rights in Palestine was well
received before an audience of about 140 in the Bethlehem University
Auditorium.
Cinema and Film
The Department of English inaugurated a project
called the “English Cinema.” The purpose of the project
is twofold: to fill the artistic gap in the life of the students
since there are no theaters or movie houses in Bethlehem and to
improve the English listening skills of the students. Five films
in English were presented during the Fall Semester. Hanna Musleh
from the Department of Humanities debuted his documentary, “
I'm a Little Angel,” on October 4th before an overflow audience
of 150 in Cardinal Furno Hall. The 40- minute documentary, filmed
in the Bethlehem area, tells the heart-rending story of three innocent
children who became physical and psychological victims of the indiscriminate
violence of the Israeli occupational forces.
