BU Students utlize alternative teaching methods for Science and Math
As part of the “Enhancing the Quality of Improving the Quality of Primary and Secondary Education in Palestine,” students of the “Science and Math in Pre-School” course organized an open day in the kindergarten of the village of Joret al-Sham’a southwest of Bethlehem.
Supervised by Dr. Rabab Tamish, the course instructor, and the Director of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Bethlehem University, the students taught the children science and math utilizing illustrations, such as melting material, mixing colors, measuring and discovering the characteristics of sound.
Around 40 children and their teachers participated in the workshop which aimed at providing the students of the Faculty of Education with the needed skills to work with children and organize concrete scientific activities based on the principles of active learning and student-centered approach.
The project is funded by the Spanish Government through the Fundación Promoción Social de la Cultura (FPSC) and Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID).
Also as part of the project, the Faculty of Education held two conferences in the month of April 2014 about “Special Education” and Early Childhood in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
