Midwifery Students Lead Inspiring Workshop in Honor of International Day of Midwives

On Thursday, 8 May 2025, fourth-year students from the Midwifery Department at Bethlehem University’s Tarek Ahmad Juffali Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences organized a professional workshop under the theme “Midwife Today, Leader of Tomorrow” to commemorate the International Day of the Midwife. The event was led by Mrs. Françoise Daoud and brought together midwives, nurses specializing in maternal and child health from hospitals across the region, and students from various disciplines.

Through six interactive and informative sessions, participants explored a wide range of topics central to the midwifery profession. These included the leadership role of the midwife, the importance of professional support and expertise, and an overview of non-pharmacological pain management techniques during labor. The sessions also introduced the concept of “Respectful Maternity Care,” advocating for dignity, empathy, and patient-centered care throughout the childbirth process.

One of the workshop’s most impactful sessions addressed the midwife’s role in times of crisis under the theme “A Lifeline in Times of Need”. Discussions included the unique challenges faced by midwives during wartime and emergencies, with a special focus on crisis response and the management of complications during childbirth. These timely conversations highlighted the courage, skill, and compassion that midwives bring to some of the most critical and vulnerable moments in healthcare.

The student-led initiative not only fostered a dynamic and collaborative learning environment but also showcased the academic and leadership excellence cultivated at Bethlehem University. Participants praised the depth and professionalism of the content delivered, as well as the engaging manner in which it was presented.

Bethlehem University remains committed to empowering students through experiential learning opportunities that align with its mission of academic excellence, community service, and the development of ethical, compassionate professionals.
