The Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) at Bethlehem University remains committed to promoting environmental awareness and fostering community engagement through a variety of educational and research initiatives. These activities aim to educate different age groups about the importance of conservation and sustainable practices in Palestine.
On Friday, 9 May 2025, PIBS organized a special educational activity for children in celebration of World Migratory Bird Day. During the event, the children learned about bird migration, exploring the different bird species that pass through Palestine and the patterns of their seasonal movements. The activity included a guided tour of the museum’s taxidermy bird exhibits and live bird observation in the botanical garden. To conclude the day, the children crafted their own bird-watching binoculars and painted them, combining learning with creativity and fun.
On the same day, PIBS welcomed students from Brother Alejandro Cerna’s Teaching Methods course at Bethlehem University for a focused training session on effective strategies for communicating science and teaching environmental topics. The students explored PIBS’s facilities, including the Palestine Museum of Natural History and the Botanical Garden, gaining valuable insights into biodiversity, sustainability, and conservation. The training equipped them with tools to engage future learners in environmental education.
Through these diverse initiatives, PIBS continues to raise environmental awareness, promote community participation, and contribute to conservation efforts across Palestine.
