Bethlehem University is proud to share that a recent research article highlighting the work of faculty members in the Department of English Language, Literature and Communications has been published in the Journal of Multicultural Affairs, Volume 10, Issue 2 (2025).
The article, titled “Language Teaching in Palestine: Leveraging Cultural Sustainability through a Video Project,” was authored by Mr. Layth R. Awwad, Mr. Imad Abu Dayyeh, and Dr. Anita L. Bright.
The three authors served as coordinators of the service English courses within the department, where they co-developed and implemented a culturally sustaining video project across multiple course sections. The project, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, invited students to create original videos inspired by articles from This Week in Palestine, fostering meaningful connections between language learning, cultural identity, and multimodal expression.
Grounded in qualitative methodology and sociocultural theory, the research explores how students engaged with themes of identity, place, heritage, and resistance—particularly within the broader Palestinian context.
This international publication reflects the department’s commitment to innovative, student-centered pedagogy and to advancing culturally responsive language education in Palestine.
