On the occasion of World Oceans Day, observed on 8 June 2025, the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) organized a special educational activity about bodies of water on Friday, June 13, 2025.
The activity included an interactive PowerPoint presentation that introduced children to the concept of bodies of water and their different types, such as the ocean, sea, river, and lake. The presentation explained the differences between them in terms of size, type of water (fresh or salt), and the living organisms found in each. It also highlighted the bodies of water found in Palestine, providing examples to strengthen children’s connection to their local environment.
The presentation also included an explanation of the importance of bodies of water in our daily lives, the challenges they face such as pollution and water scarcity, and how to protect them through simple actions children can take.
Following the presentation, the children participated in a fun hands-on art activity, where they created models of bodies of water and the organisms living in them using playdough, helping reinforce their understanding of environmental concepts in a creative and interactive way.
Through such weekly activities, PIBS continues its efforts to raise environmental awareness among future generations.
