Fatima Hammad Madany, Chair of the Midwifery Department, has recently contributed as a coauthor in a newly published research paper that evaluates midwifery education programs across the West Bank. The study, published in Women and Birth (Elsevier, 2025), represents a significant step toward strengthening the quality and consistency of midwifery training in Palestine.
The research assessed all five programs currently offered in the West Bank. Using the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) essential competencies as a benchmark, the team conducted a cross-sectional rapid assessment to measure how well current curricula align with global standards.
The study emphasizes the need for curriculum revision, enhanced faculty development in pedagogy and research, and increased mentorship opportunities for students and clinical instructors. Its conclusions aim to guide universities and policymakers in improving the overall quality and effectiveness of midwifery education in Palestine.
Ms. Fatima’s contribution to this research underscores Bethlehem University’s leadership in advancing health education and promoting excellence in maternal and newborn care.
