We owe these two reports on the usage of Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) to Francis Sleibi, Application Administrator at the Enterprise Information Systems Unit under the Office of the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology Services.
The above graph shows the number of hits during the Academic Year 2017-2018. The start of the Fall Term 2017 shows a remarkably low usage while January 2018, start of the Spring semester reveals a satisfactorily high usage of the OPAC.
The second graph below traces the growth of OPAC usage from 2005 when automated services started at the Library, to the current academic year. There is a gradual growth in usage frequency and the proliferation of Internet use may have contributed to the upward progress of clientele using the Library OPAC as it picks up usage in 2011. It should be noted that OPAC can be accessed not only on campus but also from home or any other area where the BU website can be accessed.
During the 14 years, the OPAC hits have reached to a total of 7,210,618 hits. It is noticed that in 2010, there was a jump when the library used the new techniques in searching “SEO-Search Engine Optimization” which allowed the famous search engines (such as Google/ Yahoo/ Bing/ Ask...) to identify our catalog and get hits on that search engines for a record on our OPAC database.
GRATEFUL THANKS TO FRANCIS SLEIBI !
