Duke University Professor Gives Lecture on Campus

Bethlehem University hosted Dr. Rebecca Stein, Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Duke University, on campus on Monday, 3 December 2018.

Students, Faculty, and Staff attended the lecture which was on the intersection of new media technologies and the Israeli military occupation.

Dr. Stein’s lecture addressed the question: what can the study of digital media teach us about violence and militarism?

The lecture was both a methodology workshop about visual studies and digital studies, and an introduction to her research about Israeli military culture.

Dr. Stein is the author of “Digital Militarism: Israel's Occupation in the Social Media Age” (co-authored with Adi Kuntsman; Stanford University Press, 2015); “Itineraries in Conflict: Israelis, Palestinians, and the Political Lives of Tourism” (Duke University Press, 2008); the coeditor of “Palestine, Israel and the Politics of Popular Culture” (Duke University Press, 2005) with Ted Swedenburg; and the co-editor of “The Struggle for Sovereignty: Palestine and Israel, 1993-2005” with Joel Beinin (Stanford University Press, 2006).
