President of Malta visits Bethlehem, Ramallah

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Malta’s President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca started her official one-day visit to Palestine, on Thursday.

Upon Colerio Preca's arrival in the central occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, she laid a wreath on the grave of the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.

Colerio Preca received an official reception at the presidential headquarters where President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed her.

Colerio Preca first arrived in Bethlehem City where she visited the Nativity Church, the birth place of Jesus Christ, and Bethlehem University.

The Vice Chancellor of Bethlehm University, Brother Peter Bray, welcomed Colerio Preca on campus, along with the Palestinian Minister of Tourism and Antiques Rula Maayah and Head of the Representative Office of Malta Reuben Gauci.

Colerio Preca toured Bethlehem University’s Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, the Nursing Simulation Center, and several other faculties, in addition to the Chapel of the Divine Child, built in 1908, before delivering a lecture titled “Tourism for Peace”.

Maayah briefed Colerio Preca on the general situation in Bethlehem, including Israel’s apartheid wall and settlements encircling the city, land grab and other Israeli violations.
