The Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem for the Diocese of Tucson have established a scholarship in Bishop Gerald Kicanas’ name at Bethlehem University in the Holy Land.

Organization leaders said they were impressed with university students when they took a pilgrimage and visited the university in October 2013. Additionally, a Bethlehem student, Christina Jueejat, spent six weeks in summer of that year with Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona.

The Knights and Ladies were looking for a way to build enduring bridges of understanding and peace in the region as well as support the struggling Christian community. The fully endowed scholarship is in the amount of $75,000.

It will be named for Bishop Kicanas, a strong supporter of the Holy Land and Bethlehem University. The Bishop will be celebrating his 75th birthday in 2016 when the Equestrian Order’s Western Lieutenancy’s annual meeting will be held in Tucson.
