Keeping hope alive in the Holy Land: Br Peter Bray to speak at Cathedral

From: Anglican Diocese of Wellington

Posted on 8 February 2018

New Zealander Brother Peter Bray is the Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University, and will be speaking at Wellington Cathedral of St Paul on Thursday the 15th of February at 6:30pm.

The Acting Dean of the Cathedral, the Rev Canon Simon Winn says: “during my recent sabbatical in Israel-Palestine I spent some time meeting people of faith involved in reconciliation and peace building, and a visit to Bethlehem University was one of the highlights of my trip.”

The university – the oldest in Palestine – seeks to be an oasis of peace and a beacon of hope and academic excellence for Muslims and Christians. “The students and staff I met were truly inspiring,” Simon says.

Peter is currently visiting New Zealand sharing news from Bethlehem and says: “One of the things I find when I speak to groups is an amazing amount of mis-information or ignorance about this place. My key objective is to share something of the real lives of our students, the context in which we exist and the challenges we face, our response to those challenges and the impact Bethlehem University is having on our students’ lives.”

“In the midst of the unpredictability and uncertainty around them, we want to be an oasis of peace for these young people and provide them with a place where they can be safe, cared for and thrive academically.”

Mint Tea and Arabic Coffee and pastries will be served from 6.15pm.
