Psychology of Childhood and Adolescence

Program Overview

This program is designed to meet the needs of institutions focused on psychosocial and educational childhood care, in alignment with the Palestinian strategic plan for childcare. It is the result of a comprehensive review of psychology programs in Palestine and a needs assessment survey within specialized institutions, revealing an urgent need for experts in the field of “Child and Adolescence Psychology.”

The program aims to prepare psychologists equipped with the scientific knowledge and professional skills necessary for an in-depth understanding of contemporary issues in child and adolescence psychology.  Additionally, the program aims to apply psychological theories for this age group in the Palestinian society.  The program also opts to provide the students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to improve the quality of psychological services provided for this age group in Palestine.

The program focuses on two primary orientations in child and adolescence psychology: School Psychology and Developmental Psychology.

Knowledge 

  • Comprehension of theories explaining the psychology of children and adolescents.
  • Understanding of the characteristics and developmental needs of children and adolescents.
  • Knowledge of key psychological interventions for children and adolescents.

Skills 

  • Professional skills needed for case studies and professional interventions.
  • Using some psychological tests and screening tools.
  • Research skills, and the ability to connect research and interventions in the field of child and adolescences psychology.

Attitudinal 

  • Positive attitude towards childhood and adolescence issues.
  • Positive attitude towards working with marginalized groups of children and adolescents such as children with special needs.
  • To respect the diversity, and the willingness to assist others through various life stages.

Minimum Tawjihi Average: 65%
