Program Overview
The Master in Tourism Studies is a two-year postgraduate course that aims at providing an in-depth analysis of the main academic and technical issues whose knowledge represents an asset for the development of the tourism industry in Palestine. The Master’s program is multidisciplinary: it covers a wide range of subjects – from the Economics of Tourism to History of Tourism in the Middle East, from Social Issues to Management of Tourism Destinations– and is open to several kinds of participants: university graduates, tourism institutions officers wishing to upgrade their qualifications, public administrators in the field of tourism, and employees of several relevant ministries.
- Interpret and evaluate tourism as a phenomenon and as a business system.
- Explain the diverse nature of tourism, including culture and place, global/local perspectives, and experience design and provision.
- Identify and assess relationships and networks relative to building tourism capacity.
- Contextualize tourism within broader cultural, environmental, political, and economic dimensions of society.
- Plan, lead, organize and control resources for effective and efficient tourism operations.
- Actively engage in the world as global citizens.
- Practice empathy and respect for diversity and multicultural perspectives.
- Apply principles of sustainability to the practice of tourism in the local and global context.
- Evaluate and apply various research methods commonly used in the context of tourism.
- Propose and conduct a research project to inform tourism practice.
- Value and practice active listening, critical thinking, and critical reading.
Tourism is a global industry and there is a wide range of career opportunities available to graduates:
- Junior researchers in trans disciplinary science for Tourism development.
- Tourist site manager.
- Museum manager.
- Tourism policy planner.
- Tourism economic development manager.
- Tourism surveyor.
- Tourism instructor.
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management.
- The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of no less than 2.5 or 75%.
- Passing the personal interview.
- Achieving a minimum score of 700 on the TOEIC English proficiency test. Applicants who have already taken the test may submit a copy of their score report.
- Completed admission application form.
- An official copy of the undergraduate transcript and Bachelor’s degree certificate, certified by the university and the Ministry of Higher Education.
- An official copy of the high school (Tawjihi) transcript.
- A copy of the personal ID.
- A personal photo.
- Two letters of recommendation (one from a faculty member and one from a work supervisor).
- Curriculum vitae (CV).
- Intent letter explaining the applicant’s motivation for joining the program.
