Bethlehem University Honors Faculty and Staff in De la Salle Day

de la Salle DayMay 15th is the day when the Lasallian Brothers renew their vows every year; their vows to best serve the Palestinian community, to provide Palestinians with quality education, future leaders, and opportunities to live richer lives.

Three hundred years back Saint John Baptist de La Salle revolutionized the educational system by introducing innovative methods of teaching.  Moved by the plight of the poor children, he decided to leave his family and wealth and put his own talents and advanced education at the service of the needy. The educational pioneer and the father of modern pedagogy founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools which owns and operates hundreds of schools and institutes of higher education all over the world.  As followers of St. De La Salle, the Lasallian Brothers at Bethlehem University continuously ask themselves “is there a better way to serve our students and the Palestinian community?”  They are committed to continual and never ending improvement to achieve the mission of the University to server the Palestinian community and to provide quality education to our students.

de la Salle DayDe La Salle Day is the day where Bethlehem University Community spare few hours of their busy days to socialize more. Over 230 Bethlehem University faculty and staff enjoyed a day of activities at Cremisan Monastery in Beit Jala. In the Cremisan Chapel At 10:30 am a mass was celebrated by Archbishop Antonio Franco, the Chancellor of Bethlehem University, where the Brothers renewed their vows. Mass was followed by the recognition of Staff Service Awards and the recognition of retiring staff.

“It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I thank you for what you have done to help Bethlehem University care for young people entrusted to us. I pray you will experience the peace and joy that comes from God as you contribute to enrich the lives of young people who come to us,” with those worlds Br. Peter Bray, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University, thanked the faculty and staff of the University.

For the remaining part of the day, faculty and staff enjoyed the various planned activities, competitive games,  and the opportunity to walk around the scenic areas surrounding the vineyards and orchard. Festivities included impromptu singing and dancing initiated around Brother Cyril Litecky who this year celebrates his 60th anniversary as a De La Salle Christian Brother.
