Bethlehem University Institute for Community Partnership Graduates Latest Cohort of Drug Abuse Prevention Professionals

Drug abuse preventionOn Friday January 28th, the Institute for Community Partnership held a graduation ceremony for the latest cohort of a professional training program entitled “Preventing Drug Abuse: Counseling and Intervention for Drug Addicts.” The program was conducted in cooperation with the Old City Counseling Center – Caritas, Jerusalem spanning from February 2010 - January 2011; consisting of 435 training hours. The 15 graduates were students with previously earned Bachelor's degrees in social work, psychology or mental health.

Drug abuse preventionThe objective of the program was to develop the skills of the participants in the implementation of drug prevention and intervention programs in order to decrease the presence of drug abuse cases in Palestinian society. The program also aims to raise awareness of Palestinian society of the issue of drug abuse while contributing to the promotion of mental health in the community at the same time strengthening networks of relevant institutions in the area of drug abuse prevention.

Due to the relevance and good reception of this program, the ICP and Old City Counseling Center - Jerusalem have Drug abuse preventiondecided to introduce the program as a professional accreditation program and thus secured accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and The National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Institutions of Higher Education. We commend the ICP and their proud graduates on this noble and painstaking effort and wish them great success!
