Archdiocese Of Liverpool Friends Visit Bethlehem University

LiverpoolOn June 1st, Bethlehem University welcomed visitors from the Archdiocese of Liverpool led by Rev. Thomas Williams, English prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Thomas currently serves as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Liverpool. He was born in Liverpool, and ordained to the priesthood on May 27, 1972, at the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. Also joining the jolly group were the Rev. Kenneth Holding of the Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness and the Rev. John Gorman, member of the Department of Rites and Pastoral Liturgy of the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

LiverpoolThe atmosphere on campus was quiet as the students had just completed their finals, while a number of others were preparing for their graduation. Br. Jack Curran - Vice President of Development, Mr. Philip Daoud - Communications and Alumni Manager and Mr. Demitri Awwad - Guest Relations officer welcomed the guests from Liverpool, who were shown the Chapel of the Divine Child, enjoying the beautiful artwork. Afterwards the group had a memorable time with the students in Furno Hall, which for many seemed to be the highlight of their visit.

The questions asked by the guests were articulate and student responses drew many smiles, while sadness occasionally was seen on some of guests faces as they learned of the sometimes difficult situations the students face each day here in Palestine. The visits and shows of solidarity and support of such guests are what help to bring hope to Bethlehem University students as they pursue their academic careers, in preparation for successful futures.

Bethlehem University is indeed privileged in hosting members of the Archdiocese of Liverpool and enjoys a longstanding relationship with our friends. Past activities include the visit of Communications, Alumni and Guest Relations Manager – Mr. Philip Daoud, as well as university students, which were hosted by Bishop Patrick Kelly in Liverpool in 2008. That visit at that time was a happy time for Bethlehem University as they enjoy a strong bond with those in Liverpool who happily and frequently visit Bethlehem University.
