Abstract: Removal of contaminants in water and wastewater is a severe issue in the world. In recent years, nanomaterials have been at the forefront of active research worldwide. Nanomaterials range in size between 1 and 100 nm have shown a great potential for applications in environmental clean-up due to their small sizes and thus large specific surface areas, and strong adsorption capacities and reactivity. The mobility of nanomaterials in solution is highly dependent on their physical properties. The nanomaterials have been reported to be efficient in the removal of various kinds of pollutants including heavy metals, organic pollutants, inorganic anions, and pathogens. zero-valent metal nanoparticles such as Ag, Fe, and Zn, metal oxide nanoparticles as TiO2, ZnO, and iron oxides, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and nanocomposites are the most widely used nanomaterials.
