Colloquium: Environmental research, conservation and sustainability in Palestine

The Office of the Dean of Research and the Research Council are pleased to invite you to attend the seventh colloquium in the Research and Creativity colloquia series for the 2021-2022 academic year. Prof. Mazin Qumsiyeh and Mr. Elias Handal, from the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability, will present on their project titled, “Environmental research leading to conservation and sustainability in Palestine.” This event will be held at 11:45 am on Thursday 16/12/ 2021, at Google meet through this link: http://meet.google.com/nwp-fsac-npz

Abstract:

Research at the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability at Bethlehem University (palestinenature.org) is publishing 2 papers per month and this number increases yearly. The areas of focus in research in the last six months included fauna and flora; ecosystems integrity; environmental justice in Palestine; impact of segregation and annexation wall on the Palestinian environment; culturally sensitive climate change education; politics, power, and the environment in Palestine; Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on biodiversity conservation in the Israeli Occupied West Bank, Palestine. Prof Qumsiyeh and Elias Handal will explain the importance of this research and how it feeds into projects like revamping Palestinian environmental laws and for the current work we are leading to formulate a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) for Palestine.
