بكالوريوس في هندسة الطاقة المستدامة

The Faculty of Applied Sciences, Technology, and Engineering is pleased to offer a new Bachelor of Sustainable Energy Engineering.  Sustainable energy includes any kind of energy source that cannot be depleted.  This kind of energy does not need to be renewed or replenished.  It is sustainable and meets our demands for energy without any risk of running out or going bad.  In our high and increasing dependency on energy,  sustainable energy is the answer to our energy needs.

On successful completion of the program, the student will:

  1. Have knowledge of the importance of sustainable energy.
  2. Have knowledge of the main sources of sustainable energy.
  3. Have a good understanding of sustainable energy systems, their components, and interactions between the components.
  4. Have knowledge of sustainable energy technologies, different storage technologies, distribution grids, and smart grids including sensors.
  5. Have knowledge of regulations and controls, and both “stand-alone” systems and large integrated distribution systems.
  6. Have a good understanding of national and international regulations and framework conditions for sustainable energy systems. This also includes different price models and actions.
  7. Have profound knowledge in a special field such as solar energy, storage, and smart grid.
  8. Have specialized knowledge in the field of sustainable energy systems been achieved through work on a graduation project and through internships?
  9. Apply knowledge of mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer, Economics, and engineering.
  10. Understand professional and ethical responsibility.
  11. Understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global economic, environmental, and societal context.
  12. Acquire emerging knowledge of contemporary issues.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Be able to perform an initial design of a sustainable energy system.
  2. Be able to design in detail a subsystem.
  3. Be able to analyze how changes in functionality in a component will affect the other components of the system.
  4. Be able to use laboratories and emulators of sustainable energy systems to analyze relevant issues.
  5. Be able to identify, define, present, and communicate issues within the subject area.
  6. Be able to conduct an independent development project under supervision and in accordance with current ethical standards in sustainable energy systems.
  7. Design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data.
  8. Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
  9. Function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  10. Communicate effectively.

Career Opportunities and Skills

As Energy Engineers, graduates will have global opportunities to work across the full energy life cycle in extraction, production, conversion, refining, transmission, distribution and reclamation, including alternative energy.

A graduate of this major can work in several areas including:

  • Designing and testing machinery;
  • Developing ways of improving existing processes;
  • Converting, transmitting, and supplying useful energy to meet the local needs for electricity;
  • Researching and developing ways to generate new energy reduce emissions from fossil fuels and minimize environmental damage.
