Volunteers at Bethlehem University built a Biogas Unit at the Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS). The PIBS and its EU-funded Biodiversity Center continue to develop usable modules for education and for saving our environment.
In this case, organic waste (such as kitchen waste) is digested by anaerobic bacteria (without oxygen) which then produce Methane gas which can be used for cooking. The byproduct is also used as garden fertilizer in the botanic garden at Mar Andrea campus. You are welcome to visit the Institute and the Palestine Museum of Natural History to see.
