The Office of the Dean of Research and the Research Council held a colloquium titled, “Inclusive education and teaching methods for school students with learning difficulties,” the second in the Research and Creativity colloquia series for the 2021-2022 academic year, on Thursday, 21 October 2021.

Mr. Rizek Sleibi, Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, presented the results of his research project, which was funded by a grant from the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education.

In his presentation, Mr. Sleibi discussed the importance of inclusive education in the vision of the Ministry of Education that was approved in 2015 to promote an education system that does not exclude any student, regardless of any difficulty they may face. However, he noted, there is a discrepancy in the methods and strategies that teachers use to achieve the goals of inclusive education.

The results of this research project indicate the need for defining the qualification requirements for inclusive education teachers and recommendations for improving the competencies of the inclusive education and special education supervisors in the education directorates.

The event was attended by faculty members from education, the sciences, and the arts, who were very engaged in discussing and debating the implications of inclusive education on the Palestinian education system. Br. Alejadro Gonzalez-Cerna, Dean of Education, also shared his views on inclusive education in his native country Mexico.
