The Research and the Community Engagement Committee held an online informational webinar on a Swiss call for projects, “Research Partnership Grants,” at 5 pm, Wednesday, Nov 24, 2021.

Mr. Michael Krieger, the current manager of the Leading House for the Middle East and North Africa (LHMENA), introduced the call and discussed its eligibility criteria, funding regulation, and selection process.

Faculty members from the faculty of Science, Nursing and Health Sciences, Education, and Arts attended the meeting. In response to their questions about the grant, Mr. Krieger explained that such a small grant provides seed money not only for developing long-term partnerships between Palestinian and Swiss researchers. The grant, he added, should also be used for applying for grants from other funding agencies (e.g. national funding agencies or EU funding schemes).

He also acknowledged the challenge of locating Swiss partners who are willing to collaborate with researchers in Palestine. However, he emphasized that it is the Swiss government’s policy to encourage Swiss researchers to seek global collaboration in research to ensure research sustainability.

At the end of the webinar, Mr. Moussa Rabadi, spoke about the remit of the new Research and Community Engagement Committee and encouraged faculty members to contact the committee for assistance in developing and managing grant proposals.
